See You Soon at Market In the Alley
Nov 29th “Small Business Saturday”
Step inside the mall that never was, built from the things we threw away. The Cultiplex Mall transforms discarded packaging, cardboard, and consumer detritus into a fabricated shopping center—one where the storefronts sell collectables and upcycled artworks instead of commodities.
This immersive installation is both satire and spectacle. It confronts the churn of consumer culture—the endless cycle of desire, purchase, and disposal—while layering in the nostalgia of pop culture past and the parody of pop culture that never existed. Familiar icons and invented brands blur together, reflecting our obsession with identity through what we consume.
Created by the artist collective Cult 33, featuring the work of SNIPT, You Killed Me First, and There She Is, the project is also a nod to the group’s background in street art. Here, the line between real vandalism and artistic expression is questioned, as is the notion of art as persona rather than purely a creative tool.
